Until I Die by: Amy Plum

Publication Date:
April 2013

Overview:
Kate and Vincent have overcome the odds and at last they are together in Paris, the city of love. Only, there isn't exactly a happily ever after with the revenants…. Vincent promises to do whatever it takes to lead a normal life with Kate. But will their happiness come at too high a price? If he doesn't sacrifice himself to save others, innocent people will die. When a new and surprising enemy reveals itself, Kate realizes that even more may be at stake—and that Vincent's immortality is in jeopardy.

My thoughts:
This was heart wrenching, really! I seriously thought Kate would get the chance to be happy, completely forever. But things take a course for the worse.  I know she is happy for most of this books but things occur that change that.
Choas is erupting everywhere and someone they have taking into the fold is evil. I would slap them myself if I could. In my mind eye view of things it was Violette and Arther acting as one, but that is not how it actually goes.
Jules seems in love with Kate...which is a no-no!
J.B. and Gaspard are together...shh
Georgia is mad for Arthur...OMG!!
And Charles is gone....M.I.A. , but then turns up he's somewhere where things could be fixed for him. He might actually get the chance to be happy.
I hate the ending with a passion, mainly because my cousin doesn't own the third book yet so I can't find out what happens. But I wanted tings to be over done and happy. I know there will be no story when that is done but the suspense is killing me!!!!!

If I should Die

Die for Me by: Amy Plum

Publications Date:
April 2012

Overview:
When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she has to leave everything behind and move to Paris to live with her grandparents. Kate knows her life will never be the same. But she has no idea how right she is…until she meets Vincent. Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix puts Kate in danger of losing her heart all over again. Especially when Kate discovers his impossible secret: Vincent is no normal human. He has a terrifying destiny and enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind. And Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

My thoughts:
My cousin bought these and has been raving mad about them for weeks, so I borrowed them and tried them out. If you look on my "Favorites Banners" you can see this series is now on the list. I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed them. In the matter of a day and a half I read both of them.
I have to say I was skeptical, I went as far as to question my cousin before I could even get halfway through the first book, and if you know me, I don't ask question.....I hate spoilers. Thankfully she had the common sense to not answer my questions.
Vincent sounds quite dreamy and Jules really makes me sweaty...lmbo! I am so happy that Kate found him and that they can be truthful with one another. And I have never been so glad that someone decided to keep the relationship instead of throwing it away!
Saving lives and taking them that's the name of this game!

Burn by: Julianna Baggott

Publication Date:
February 2014

Overview:
With his father now dead, Partridge has assumed leadership of the Dome, one of the last few refuges from the ravaged wastelands of the outside world. At first, Partridge is intent on exposing his father's lies, taking down the rigid order of the Dome, and uniting its citizens with the disfigured Wretches on the outside. But from his new position of power, things are far more complex and potentially dangerous than he could have ever imagined.
On the outside, a band of survivors faces a treacherous journey to Dome. Pressia carries with her the key to salvation. If she can get it to the Dome, the Wretches could one day be healed and everyone might be able to put the horrors of the past behind them. Bradwell, the revolutionary, cannot forgive so easily. Despite Pressia's pleas, he is determined to bring down the Dome and hold its citizens accountable for leaving the rest of the world to burn. El Capitan, the former rebel leader, wants to help Pressia save as many lives as possible--but he's struggling to reconcile his newfound compassion with his vicious past.
As former allies become potential enemies, the fate of the world is more uncertain than ever. Will humanity fall to destruction? Or will a new world rise from the ashes?

My thoughts:
First of all this was hard for me to get through, considering I never read the others I felt lost at times. But I barged forward to get the review out for the author.
I am a huge fan of Dystopians and this was very appealing. I have to say having not read the first two I feel like there is so much more that I could have loved if I understood it all the way. The other books are on my TBR pile and I will eventually get to them. This story is definitely one that I would recommend to those who enjoy such things as hunger Games and Under the Never Sky. The journey and adventure that occurs to the characters is much the same a fight to survive.
There never seems to be a easy road or way out of things. I think that in the end you will enjoy this horrifying scary world. The characters seems very tramatized and overwhelmed with life and everything it has had in store for them and yet you just love the fight they have. Strong and talented writing.

Walking Disaster by: Jamie McGuire

Publication Date:
April 2013

Overview:
Can you love someone too much?
Travis Maddox learned two things from his mother before she died: Love hard. Fight harder.
In Walking Disaster, the life of Travis is full of fast women, underground gambling, and violence. But just when he thinks he is invincible, Abby Abernathy brings him to his knees.
Every story has two sides. In Beautiful Disaster, Abby had her say. Now it’s time to see the story through Travis’s eyes.

My thoughts:
Okay another ones of those iffy reads. It contains sexually explicit encounters but at the same time college age relationships.
This story is from Travis' point of view. After reading Abbey's it was hard for me to read this one. It seems most of it was the same except; when they were apart you would find things that happened to him separately and then his feelings on things that happened while they were together to be a bit different. But otherwise it was as if you were reading the first book all over again, and reading them back to back was awful.
I do have to say I love Travis' character and was really routing for him from the beginning til the end. And the ending to this book has a great surprise, one I had hoped for from the first book.

****NEW POST****

Beautiful Disaster by: Jamie McGuire

Publication Date:
August 2012

Overview:
The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.
Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
My thoughts:
This is one of those iffy genre books. It can be classified as Young Adult or Adult. It does have some explicit content, not as if it were Fifty Shades of anything. But I would take care if letting a younger teen read this.
I love the friendship between the top female characters they have a strong friendship, that in fact I would love to have with someone. You always need that one girl that will have your back no matter the situation. In this book they help each other out. Grante4d most of the time it seems one sided I can tell how much they love each other and the sisters have each others in their corner.
Travis is hard to get to but somehow Abby has done it. I don't know whose more in love with who, but hope things work out for them. I would hate for things to tear them apart. Especially after the ending. Which I didn't expect.

Publication Date:
April 2013

Overview:
Galen, a Syrena prince, searches land for a girl he’s heard can communicate with fish. It’s while Emma is on vacation at the beach that she meets Galen. Although their connection is immediate and powerful, Galen’s not fully convinced that Emma’s the one he’s been looking for. That is, until a deadly encounter with a shark proves that Emma and her Gift may be the only thing that can save his kingdom. He needs her help—no matter what the risk.

My thoughts:

This is one of those books that have been on my mind for a while. I think that the whole thought of mermaid and such is thrilling and makes me wonder. I'm a Little Mermaid fan.
Emma believes she is normal, but a chance encounter with a strange boy and a death prove differently. I would be stunned for a bit if I had to endure what she has had to go through.
She begins talking to fish and has yet to figure out why, but we all know she's a mermaid or at least in part!
She has to figure out which part of her is human and which part is mermaid and will she ever get to be all mermaid to be with Galen.

Beautifully Broken by: Sherry Soule

Publications Date:
July 2011

When sixteen-year-old Shiloh Trudell takes a summer job at Craven Manor, she discovers a ghost with an agenda. That’s where she meets the new town hottie, Trent Donovan, and immediately becomes enchanted by his charms.

Finally, Shiloh’s met someone who is super cute and totally into her, but Trent is immersed in the cunning deception that surrounds the mysterious Craven Manor. Yet neither one of them can deny the immediate, passionate connection growing between them.

But underlying everything is the fear that Trent may be the next victim on a supernatural hit list, and Shiloh is the only person with the power to save him…

With cryptic messages from a pesky wraith, Shiloh will finally begin to understand the mysterious significance of the strange mark branded on her wrist and decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice to protect the other teenagers in town.

Unfortunately, for Shiloh, not all ghosts want help crossing over. Some want vengeance.

My thoughts:
This was intense. Dealing with witchcraft and Native American heritages is amazing. The chemistry between the characters is spot on and exciting!
I felt like I was on an amazing ride at amusement park! In the end I was holding my breath as were dealt the final blows and I wanted more and more!
The family dynamic is sick and I wanted at time to hit someone, but held on for things to come about face. I think in the end things had to happen, the way they did for a reason and feel really bad for everyone involved. I don't want to give anything away this time I want everyone surprised, much like I was!

Midnight Frost by: Jennifer Estep

Publication Date:
July 2013

Overview:
Here we go again...
Just when it seems life at Mythos Academy can't get any more dangerous, the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at the Library of Antiquities—until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news is I'm still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone else instead.
As Nike's Champion, everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I'm still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. I've got to get my hands on the antidote fast—otherwise, an innocent person will die. But the only known cure is hidden in some creepy ruins—and the Reapers are sure to be waiting for me there . . .

My thoughts:
Dealing with life without Logan is especially hard for Gwen, but she starting to find her footing.
After fighting another Reaper, who of course tried to poison her, but on managed to get Nickademas...she and the gang set out to find the cure for the poison. It is becoming abundantly clear to me that this story is going to sound much like others I have read where they go on a grand adventure to save the day, but get attacked and fight for their life. Sounds like Mulan. Which I love.
But finding a long forgotten family member and discovering the truth behind the whole family is like a cold slap in the face. I feel really bad for Gwen, only Rory seems worse off then she does. But things have a way of working out and I hope that's no the last of Rory.
Someone is back????

Perfect Chemistry by;Simone Elkeles

Publications Date:
December 2008

Overview:
When Brittany Ellis walks into chemistry class on the first day of senior year, she has no clue that her carefully created “perfect” life is about to unravel before her eyes. She’s forced to be lab partners with Alex Fuentes, a gang member from the other side of town, and he is about to threaten everything she's worked so hard for—her flawless reputation, her relationship with her boyfriend, and the secret that her home life is anything but perfect. Alex is a bad boy and he knows it. So when he makes a bet with his friends to lure Brittany into his life, he thinks nothing of it. But soon Alex realizes Brittany is a real person with real problems, and suddenly the bet he made in arrogance turns into something much more.
In a passionate story about looking beneath the surface, Simone Elkeles breaks through the stereotypes and barriers that threaten to keep Brittany and Alex apart.

My thoughts:
This story deals with Racism and gangs, if you are easily offended BEWARE! This isn't my typical read, which is why I have never picked it up. But when I came across it at the local used bookstore for less then $1 I decided to give it a go! I have to say I fell in love instantly and am now wondering why I never tried it before.
Brittany is brave, in my opinion, to take on the forbidden relationship. I do think she's having a breakdown after dealing with her family for as long as she has.
Alex seems to be having his own short of meltdown, but only due to Brittany stepping in a showing a difference. The meltdown changes him and break his heart but brings him love and saves his life.
Sometimes love is worth changing over!

Secret of Phoon by: Corinne Foster

Publication Date
November 2013

Overview:
Stalked by wolves and facing certain death, Avira knows she can't outrun them.  Her only chance of survival is by summoning the Phoon, along-secret and deadly supernatural force.

And it would have remained a secret, had the pride of her protégé Shastia not been dented by the king of the Varg, leading her to exaggerate her own powers, boasting that she could summon this deadly force. This sets in train a race between the Varg and their arch-rivals the Trillon, who both send raiding parties to chase her back to Domina, each craving the power of the Phoon to ensure victory over the other.

But bigger than this threat is the one that comes from within Avira's own community of outcast girls. When will she recognize that challenge and can she withstand it?

My thoughts:
The author has made some tough woman that is for sure. Reading this makes me realize more and more how much of a woman's world is actually happening. Myself living with 4 other females see how much we can accomplish. I loved the skills and other things that the woman and girls of her story manage.
You wind in the magical world of the Unloved, which sounds sad in itself. The woman here are unloved or unwanted, but they work hard and protect the Phoon, which in turn protects them. It seems like a secret society kind of thing. But one of the unloved and unwanted falls in love and the endangers everything. But really who can blame the girl, love is love.

Birthday surprises

I got several books for my birthday And I am extremely excited! Some I had read already and simply wanted to own, which is even more excited because it helped my start or finish a series!

I want to thank my family for the wonderful gifts I received. No one is more appreciative then me!

Easy by: Tammara Weber

November 2012

Overview:
Rescued by a stranger.
Haunted by a secret

The attraction between them was undeniable. Yet the past he’d worked so hard to overcome, and the future she’d put so much faith in, threatened to tear them apart.

A groundbreaking novel in the New Adult genre, Easy faces one girl's struggle to regain the trust she's lost, find the inner strength to fight back against an attacker, and accept the peace she finds in the arms of a secretive boy.

My thoughts:
This fun story isn't all laughs and witty banter, it deals heavily with topics that are touchy.
As a female you hate stories about rape and eager boys with large egos.
This girl is almost raped, then meets the man if her dreams truly. Together the must face many obstacles, but the love they find in each other gets them through.
And the rapist gets his due!

Fault in our Stars by: John Green

Publication Date:
 January 2012

Overview:
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

My thoughts:
This is an emotional roller-coaster. I picked it up because of all the hype on Facebook. (Apparently, it too will be made into a movie)
But I was surprised to be dealing with such heavy topics. Considering most fan hype is over other things this one really shocked me when I read that it dealt with cancer and death.
The love story that arrives from this book is bittersweet. I must say I cried during most of this book.

The Grimm Chronicles by: Isabella Fontaine and Ken Brosky

Publication Date:
December 2013

Overview:

Book 7: The Giant Slayer

Europe: birthplace of Grimms' Fairy Tales. An unfamiliar land, brimming with its own breed of Corrupted who hide in the shadows, growing more evil with each passing day. For modern-day hero Alice Goodenough, this is more than enough to worry about. But she also has a fencing tournament to think about.

And a promise to keep with Sam Grayle, a Corrupted dwarf who schemes for more and more wealth. When their train breaks down in a small town in eastern Hungary, Alice finds the legacy of the hero is alive and well. Corrupted have visited this town before, and they aren't quite vanquished just yet. There's one left, hiding away, biding his time to enact a terrible price on his enemies. A little creature with big, big plans ...

Werewolves. Vampires. Giants. Europe is a different place with new dangers, new monsters and new surprises.

Book 8: Darkness Rising

200 years ago, the Brothers Grimm brought their stories to life.

But why? The question has haunted the heroes for two centuries, and no one has come close to the truth. Alice Goodenough will learn the terrible truth. And it will come at a terrible cost.

The fencing tournament is in just a few short days. Alice's team is hopelessly outmatched, facing off against fencers who have more experience and an inhuman amount of energy. But the other fencers also have a special drug, one that Alice's team can use to even the playing field. Whether they should take the drug or not threatens to tear the team apart.

Meanwhile, Alice must live up to her agreement with Sam Grayle, who lusts after a hidden treasure that once belonged to the Corrupted. Alice must team up with a group of explorers and delve deep into a forbidden cave that holds more secrets than any of them expected.

Book 9: Malevolence

The Malevolence has been biding its time inside Castle Vontescue, but now Alice must finally confront it. The very same evil force that brought the Grimms' fairy tales to life now threatens the hero and all she holds dear. No one is safe in the darkness.

But what, exactly, is this centuries-old creature? To find that out, Br'er Rabbit will have to use all of his wits and decode a series of clues before time runs out. Meanwhile, Alice must keep her friends close and fight through her numerous injuries if she hopes to stop the evil.

But nothing is certain. Alice's body is breaking down. Her loved ones are in constant danger. There is no escape now ... soon, she must face off against the ancient evil that lurks within Castle Vontescue.

And there will be blood.

My thoughts:
I was so excited when Alice received the chance to travel abroad with the fencing team. Then, the realization came that she was walking directly in to old world Brothers Grimm territory, and I knew that she was in for something a lot tougher then she had ever faced before. There was no way she was getting out of this easily.
I really love the relationships between Alice and Chase. She honestly cares about him so much from the get go! She simply wants to protect him. I am glad they finally both admit their feelings. I think they are great for one another. They have that relationship where they make each other better, sometimes it seems like a push, but it all works out!
I have to say that I adore Seth in this one. I'm happy that he moves past Trisha. Sanda and him definitely fit together a lot better. I really think it's great that he still helps Alice. He is probably one of the best friends she could ever ask for.
The ending, however, left my heart on the floor in a million pieces. Really? Come on! I'm ready for the next one, so they can fix this ending or say it never happened!

(Deck of Lies Book 2) The Tower by: Jade Varden

Publication Date:
April 2012

Overview:
A Tower of Deception...

Death brings some families closer, but it's ripped mine apart. I wanted to convince the police that they had the wrong suspect...but I never expected them to start suspecting me. Now, I have no choice but to keep searching for the truth, even if all my relationships fall to pieces around me.

Someone is trying to make me look guilty. I never thought my mission to prove my own innocence would lead me to more family secrets. I thought I had already discovered the truth about myself. But every answer raises more questions, and everything I think I know is about to change...again.

I have to find the truth, no matter how much it hurts -- before I get charged with murder.

My thoughts:
She's back. I was happy that author Jade Varden gave me another go at her work. I wanted to read it right away due to my love for Rain/Chloe/Glory, but due to demand I had to put my dreams on hold.
Finally getting back to this story had me excited. I wanted to know who murdered Laurel, but more importantly I wanted to know where Rain belongs. She really doesn't feel like a member of her new family, she has feelings for her "brother" and hates her sister.
There is so much new info to gain from this books at times you feel overwhelmed or confused, but they know what they are talking about and have everything figured out.
I myself am not sure who the killer is, but Rain believes it's one of her "siblings." I'm thinking it's Carsyn, because some of the clues sound female. Who knows. I hope to get the next book to read as well so I can find out the truth.
And I hope for Rain's sake she find out the exact truth before too long. This stress is wearing her down!
Another great job, with strong characters. Twists and plots that you never see coming and so much drama!
