Rules of Attraction by: Simone Elkeles

Publication Date:
April 2010

Overview:
Carlos Fuentes doesn't want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him in Boulder, Colorado. He wants to keep living on the edge, and carve his own path-just like Alex did. Unfortunately, his ties to a Mexican gang aren't easy to break, and he soon finds himself being set up by a drug lord.

When Alex arranges for Carlos to live with his former professor and his family to keep him from being sent to jail, Carlos feels completely out of place. He's even more thrown by his strong feelings for the professor's daughter, Kiara, who is nothing like the girls he's usually drawn to. But Carlos and Kiara soon discover that in matters of the heart, the rules of attraction overpower the social differences that conspire to keep them apart.

As the danger grows for Carlos, he's shocked to discover that it's this seemingly All-American family who can save him. But is he willing to endanger their safety for a chance at the kind of life he's never even dreamed possible?

My thoughts:
After reading the first book in this series I went on a mad search for the others. Carlos is probably my least favorite brother. I think it's that fact that although he sees the error of his ways he still has the almighty attitude. . I know they say all middle children are a pill, and I have a sister in the middle so I know it's true. But I think he could reign it in some.
Carlos and Kara fall for each other instantly, you can tell. They both have issues...her is body issues and his is having no parents.
Dick is and amazing man. I am glad he is so amazing, everything he does for the brothers and in fact their whole family is pretty great! Without his help through out the whole thing would have gone south pretty quickly!

Sister's Red by: Jackson Pearce

Publication Date:
May 2010

Overview:
Scarlett March lives to hunt the Fenris--the werewolves that took her eye when she was defending her sister Rosie from a brutal attack. Armed with a razor-sharp hatchet and blood-red cloak, Scarlett is an expert at luring and slaying the wolves. She's determined to protect other young girls from a grisly death, and her raging heart will not rest until every single wolf is dead.

Rosie March once felt her bond with her sister was unbreakable. Owing Scarlett her life, Rosie hunts ferociously alongside her. But even as more girls' bodies pile up in the city and the Fenris seem to be gaining power, Rosie dreams of a life beyond the wolves. She finds herself drawn to Silas, a young woodsman who is deadly with an ax and Scarlett's only friend--but does loving him mean betraying her sister and all that they've worked for?

My thoughts:
I've never been one for retellings, but lately I have found myself thrust in their way! So I have given several a try. This is one that I struggled with the first bit, but the further I went in the more I liked it and wanted to know what would happen in the end!
I love Scarlett's fierceness. I think this is one brave girl, GIRL ON FIRE! Silas sounds in credibly hot and I have to say I would go for it! I know they are friends but I would have gone for it. Rosie sounds like my little sister annoying, but great and always in my corner!
The werewolves in this are crazy but these girls are kicking their butts. Oh and taking names...literally.
This story is great and I really wish this was more to this, another tale on the side that I could pick up!
I do wish that Scarlet had gotten Silas, or that she found any sort of love...that would have been an amazing way to end out this tale.

Titan Magic by: Jodi Lamm

Publication Date:
December 2013

Overview:
Mute, heartless, and tormented by auditory hallucinations, Madeleine Lavoie never questions why her family has hidden her from the world. But the night her brother casts her out, she learns the mysterious voice she thought existed only in her mind is no delusion, and no matter how hard she tries, she can never disobey it.

Now Madeleine must find her own voice in a cacophony of powerful tyrants, monsters, and gods. If she fails, she will forfeit her life and the lives of everyone who loves her. But if she succeeds, she may finally gain the ability to love someone in return.

My thoughts:
This one is really unique. There are times I felt completely lost, but would find my way quickly. There are things I question, but who doesn't when they read a book. My heart goes out to this young girl and it makes you want to read more to find out what happens. She is strong and she will find her way, it makes you love her all the more.
There are a lot of characters in this book and each one is so different from the other, it makes you think the author was purposely trying to make them so different, they must have tried a million scenarios for these characters.
There is definitely a lot going on but you will find it makes sense and it's a great read for teens.

Death by: Jade Varden

Publication Date:
 June 2012

Overview:
All In

I never wanted to get in this deep, but I did go looking for the truth before I was prepared to handle it. But how do you close the lid on Pandora's box? You can't unlearn something, or forget a dark secret once it's been revealed.

I have no choice but to do my part to bury the truth again -- this time, someplace no one will ever be able to find it. But that's the problem with lies. Once you start pulling threads, everything unravels.

No one is who they seem to be...not even me.

My thoughts:
I have to say when I was given this book I was really excited. Seeing as I have read all the others before I wanted so bad to know who murder Laurel. And now I know, the only problem with knowing is that it isn't going according to plan. The culprit should be in jail and seeing the face of death themselves. Instead someone innocent is in jail and I don't know if she'll ever get out or be happy.

After all a girl whose whole life has been turned topsy turvy in such a short time deserves to be happy. And thinking that Sawyer is the perfect one is not the game plan anymore. I want River to be the one, I'm not sure if he will be but that is my hope!

The author has an amazing talent for drawing you in more and more. I want more!!!! I am happy to say that this has exceeded anything I ever imagined.

Death

On March 18, we laid to rest my grandfather. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and dealt with it for 15 years before it took his life. I have been dealing with this loss for two weeks and am now ready to begin again. If you have asked for a post to be made I have it, but will be posting soon! I had to take time to grieve and ask that you respect that!

Unite Me by: Tahereh Mafi

Publication Date:
February 2014

Overview:
Fracture Me and Destroy Me, in print for the first time ever. It also features an exclusive look into Juliette's journal and a preview of Ignite Me, the hotly anticipated final novel of the series.
~Destroy Me tells the events between Shatter Me and Unravel Me from Warner's point of view. Even though Juliette shot him in order to escape, Warner can't stop thinking about her—and he'll do anything to get her back. But when the Supreme Commander of The Reestablishment arrives, he has much different plans for Juliette. Plans Warner cannot allow.
*Fracture Me is told from Adam's perspective and bridges the gap between Unravel Me and Ignite Me. As the Omega Point rebels prepare to fight the Sector 45 soldiers, Adam's more focused on the safety of Juliette, Kenji, and his brother. The Reestablishment will do anything to crush the resistance . . . including killing everyone Adam cares about.

My thoughts:
~ Reading from Warner's point of view make the hair on my head stand up! He sounds like a stalker, very creepy. I know now why I dislike him so strongly. But on the other hand you see how his dad treats him and I pity him. Something I 'm sure he would tell me to shove where the sun doesn't shine.
*Adam's point of view of the fighting and bombing is so emotional. His feelings for James and Juliette are crystal clear. The end is very sad, but the truth is I loved it!

The Selection Stories by: Kiera Cass

Publication Date:
February 2014

Overview:
The Prince and The Guard both offer captivating views into the hearts and minds of the two men fighting to win America Singer's love. This collection also features exclusive bonus content, including a sneak peek at The One, the eagerly anticipated third novel in the Selection series.
~Before America arrived at the palace to compete in the Selection, there was another girl in Prince Maxon's life. The Prince opens the week before the Selection begins and follows Maxon through the first day of the competition.
*Raised as a Six, Aspen Leger never dreamed that he would find himself living in the palace as a member of the royal guard. In The Guard, readers get an inside look at Aspen's life within the palace walls—and the truth about a guard's world that America will never know.

My thoughts:
~ Walking in Maxon's shoes for a few minutes is almost exhausting. Having to live up to your father expectations and having him treat you like dirt is no fun. He need America, in my eyes, she can save him. His mother is truly an amazing gal. She has my vote all the way!

* Finding out more about Aspen is fun. But I feel like he is taking to many risks. Some that may cause her harm and I don't want that! And I still want her to choose Maxon, sorry Aspen! This character is strong and dutiful and deserves to be happy, just no with America.

The One

Covet by: Melissa Darnell

Publication Date:
September 2012

Overview:
Dangerous to be together. Painful to be apart.

Savannah Colbert knows she broke up with Tristan Coleman for the right reasons. Most of all, to keep from killing him with her new vampire abilities. But try telling her heart. Now, lost in a sea of hostile Clann faces, Sav tries to come to terms with what she's becoming and what that means for her future. And that someone is doing their best to bully her into making a terrible mistake.

Tristan can't believe Sav won't even talk to him. If being apart is her decision, fine. Just don't expect him to honor it. But even as he prepares to fight for the girl he loves, forces beyond their control take them both in directions neither could have foreseen or prepared for.

A reckoning is coming…and not everyone will survive.

My thoughts
This one was painful for me to read. At times I felt like I was the one going through the heartbreak and found myself crying when Savannah should have been. But this is one tough cookie.
It was such a way to shake things up. Torturing two people who clearly belong together but, can't be. They sit them next to each other in class and have to see each other through out the say at school. How awful!
Using magic is not what Savannah is suppose to be doing, no one knows what the out come will be. They fear the unknown, but Savannah feels she has nothing left to lose.

Crave by: Melissa Darnell

Publication Date:
October 2011

Overview:
Savannah Colbert has never known why she's so hated by the kids of the Clann. Nor can she deny her instinct to get close to Clann golden boy Tristan Coleman. Especially when she recovers from a strange illness and the attraction becomes nearly irresistible. It's as if he's a magnet, pulling her gaze, her thoughts, even her dreams. Her family has warned her to have nothing to do with him, or any members of the Clann. But when Tristan is suddenly everywhere she goes, Savannah fears she's destined to fail.

For years, Tristan has been forbidden to even speak to Savannah Colbert. Then Savannah disappears from school for a week and comes back…different, and suddenly he can't stay away. Boys seem intoxicated just from looking at her. His own family becomes stricter than ever. And Tristan has to fight his own urge to protect her, to be near her no matter the consequences…

My thoughts:
Savannah's life is very extraordinary. Living life where the ones you use to call friends outcast you and treat you as if you have the plague. Let me just say I would be a bit forceful compared to this taken aback girl.
Tristan's life is fun except he misses Savannah, who would guess it. Being banned from talking to her makes his feelings stronger or is it the glaze daze. Tristan's sister is the best, she knows the rules are there for protection but she doesn't let it stop her from having the time of her life or from supporting baby brother.
Kidnapping, steal away for kisses and much more make this one very exciting and intense read.

Thrall by: Jennifer Quintenz

Publication Date:
March 2014

Overview:
Braedyn is a normal girl just trying to survive high school with her two devoted friends, Royal and Cassie. Together they're doing a pretty good job of shrugging off the slings and arrows cast their way by the popular crowd when a new boy, Lucas, moves into the house next door. Suddenly Braedyn finds herself falling in love for the first time.

But as her sixteenth birthday approaches, Braedyn discovers humankind is at war with the Lilitu, an ancient race of enticing demons that prey on human souls. Her father is a member of the Guard fighting against the Lilitu - and so are the new neighbors, including her crush, Lucas.

As her world starts to unravel at the seams, Braedyn learns the right answers aren't always clear or easy. And as for "good" and "evil" - it all depends on how we choose to act.

Inspired by the ancient Mesopotamian myths of Lilith and her offspring, Thrall explores first love, strong friendships, and taking on adult responsibilities against the backdrop of powerful supernatural forces and life-and-death stakes.

My Thoughts:
This is one RED HOT READ! Very intense and sexy. I have to say I was impressed. After being harassed by a few friends(bloggers) who had gotten the chance to read this, I was glad to be given the chance as well. It took me long to actually get to it then originally planned. I think I am a month behind.
IT definitely has appeal that everyone should want to pick it up and read it. The love story with this is very strong the characters are better together (Taylor Swift, eat your heart out kinda thing). IT makes you gasp and wanna fight to have that kind of love. There is heart break as with any love story but worth the breaking I believe.
I do have to tell you that I feel bad for Braedyn, not just having a seemingly boys name, but she has a rough go around. It's always something, sounds like my worst nightmare. Of course this is a supernatural read, but seriously real world happenings.

Liv, Forever by: Amy Talkington

Publication Date:
March 2014

Overview:
When Liv Bloom lands an art scholarship at Wickham Hall, it’s her ticket out of the foster system. Liv isn't sure what to make of the school’s weird traditions and rituals, but she couldn't be happier. For the first time ever, she has her own studio, her own supply of paints. Everything she could want.

Then she meets Malcolm Astor, a legacy student, a fellow artist, and the one person who’s ever been able to melt her defenses. Liv’s only friend at Wickham, fellow scholarship kid Gabe Nichols, warns her not to get involved, but life is finally going Liv’s way, and all she wants to do is enjoy the ride.

But Liv’s bliss is doomed. Weeks after arriving, she is viciously murdered and, in death, she discovers that she’s the latest victim of a dark conspiracy that has claimed many lives. Cursed with the ability to see the many ghosts on Wickham’s campus, Gabe is now Liv’s only link to the world of the living. To Malcolm.

Together, Liv, Gabe, and Malcolm fight to expose the terrible truth that haunts the halls of Wickham. But Liv must fight alone to come to grips with the ultimate star-crossed love.

My thoughts:
The beginning is quite annoying. She ramble son and on about history and her surroundings. I felt like I was in one big boring history lesson in school. Sights, sounds and locations don't matter move on!!!
But things change. Abigail is a cow, completely and I can't stand her. Her brother Kent sounds kinda dreamy, but you'll find he's not what you would expect! Gabe is quiet and bashful at first. Malcolm is well, truly beautiful inside and out!
Gabe confesses and few things to Abigail which is kinda freaky to her, but she doesn't seem to surprised by this and just goes with it. Trying to figure out more and more about him and understanding why he acts so weird.
Malcolm is always a constant thought in her mind and then they start seeing each other, but things go crazy and fall apart. I 'm telling you when everything goes down I am pissed. After hearing about her past and then thinking about how her future could be and then things happen to change that......I'm angry. I wanted her to be happy and have the best ending in the world, but things can't be that way can they.
This is such a compelling love story with a lot of murder mystery involving ghost and more. I have to say considering the way it all started I am glad things settled down for the epic ending and the truth is outed!

Out of the Cave by: Cotton E. Davis

Publication Date:
October 2013

Overview:
Timewarp Inc, brings Adam Stancil, a 15-year-old Neanderthal boy to this century, where he is mainstreamed into a Midwestern high school. As he assimilates into modern culture, makes friends, deals with bullies, plays on the football team, he discovers it was human ancestors who, back in the Ice Ages, murdered his people with superior weaponry. First, Adam was hurt. Then, he felt betrayed. Now, Adam is mad.

My thoughts:
I was a little confused by the thoughts of someone wanting to go through time and then bring home a boy that has to been more lost and confused, then I was while reading this. He is thrust into the life of a person that he shouldn't been pushed to be. I think they are trying to tell us that everyone struggles, although we all should know that.
But let me ask this, how did they get him to the leave that he is ready to attend school (high school , no less). It takes us years to be prepared for that level and yet he did it in two. I thin they need to be a bit more realistic. Although the writing is strong and the characters are wonderful I think they are forgetting a few things here.

Excerpt:

She saw red. Seeping into the crystal clear water it spread, bleeding and merging as the ripples around her pushed it closer towards her feet. The deep crimson only grew darker as it surrounded her.
She could feel her breathing quicken, coming in short, sharp rasps as she started to panic. Her chest constricted, an unbearable pressure tightening like a boa constrictor refusing to release her from its clutches. Her throat felt dry, her increased breathing doing nothing to help the situation as she forced herself to swallow in the hope of dislodging the lump that had formed there.
This isn’t happening. This isn’t real. I came here to escape this, she told herself repeatedly as she laid there, her turquoise bikini embellished with golden sequins shining in the sun as her back tanned slowly. Bringing up an arm to adjust her chestnut-brown hair that was dangling in the water, she tried to pull away before the colour reached her and tainted the beautiful locks. The damage done would be irreparable if it touched her.
Moving it just in time, she threw it over her shoulder so it rested between her shoulder blades, the damp tips feeling nice as they cooled her back by trailing droplets of water down either side. She tried not to flinch as her gaze returned to the bloodied water that lapped at the li-lo beneath her chin. With every wave it seemed to grow closer, making its way further up the yellow plastic to try and touch her. The tapping that was normally so soothing tormented her now, like a crowd clapping and cheering her sanity on as it fled for safety.
Rather than listen to the logical side of her brain, her body had other ideas. Shuffling back, she put a bigger distance between her face and the abnormal pool beneath her. As her toes dipped into the cool water behind her though, she flinched, automatically drawing herself up so that no part of her body was near the edge. No matter how disgusted she was, she couldn’t stop staring; her eyes were hypnotised by the gentle movements that swirled the colour into the water even more. The red had become so thick that not one tile beneath the surface was visible.
The more she stared, the more she remembered.
The more she remembered, the more she was pulled into her memory.
It might not have been real at that moment in time, but it had been, and Jenna was once again pulled into the unbearable memory.
