Bloodrose by: Andrea Cremer

Publication Date: January 2012

Overview: The third and final installment of the international bestselling Nightshade trilogy!
Calla has always welcomed war. But now that the final battle is upon her, there's more at stake than fighting. There's saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay's wrath. There's keeping Ansel safe, even if he's been branded a traitor. There's proving herself as the pack's alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers' magic once and for all. And then there's deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is. In this remarkable final installment of the Nightshade trilogy, international bestselling author Andrea Cremer crafts a dynamic novel with twists and turns that will keep you breathless until its final pages.

My thoughts: First I have to say that I hate that this is the end of such wonderful writing. This trilogy broke my heart and really brought me to tears.
To see someone raised in such a way and then for them to go against the grain reminds me so much of my life. Calla has made a choice to fight for what she believes is right and in the process people get hurt and lost including friends, and ex-pack mates. I'm glad they get Ren on their side and I'm so happy that he has found a sister he never knew.
The fight begins and she never told Ren the truth. I hate that. The fight ends and someone doesn't make it out. I love that most of the characters find true love and end up happy but for the one I wanted her to be with, he's gone. That is what killed me the most.

Wither by: Lauren Destefano

Publication Date: March 2011

Overview: By age sixteen, Rhine Ellery has four years left to live. A botched effort to create a perfect race has left all males born with a lifespan of 25 years, and females a lifespan of 20 years--leaving the world in a state of panic. Geneticists seek a miracle antidote to restore the human race, desperate orphans crowd the population, crime and poverty have skyrocketed, and young girls are being kidnapped and sold as polygamous brides to bear more children.
When Rhine is sold as a bride, she vows to do all she can to escape. Yet her husband, Linden, is hopelessly in love with her, and Rhine can’t bring herself to hate him as much as she’d like to. He opens her to a magical world of wealth and illusion she never thought existed, and it almost makes it possible to ignore the clock ticking away her short life. But Rhine quickly learns that not everything in her new husband’s strange world is what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement; her fellow sister wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next; and Rhine has no way to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive.
Together with one of Linden's servants, Gabriel, Rhine attempts to escape just before her seventeenth birthday. But in a world that continues to spiral into anarchy, is there any hope for freedom?

My Thoughts: I loved this book. The cover is what really drew me in. This girl looks like she had been through the ringer. Little did I know that she had. Bring kidnapped would be awful, but being forced to wed someone you don't know or love is worse.
I have to say I'm glad the writer didn't add anything about rape because that would have thrown me off the book. But these girls are faced with death and pregnancy. There is also slavery and depression.
Rhine doesn't realize when she marries this man that he has no idea that she doesn't want to be with him. He thinks she volunteered to bee his wife. His father who is incredibly evil, set this whole thing up. What a creep.
And it doesn't say much for this family that keeps secrets from each other....and this man is definitely a daddy's boy....ergh!!!!
